Fleas & ticks can cause numerous health problems for your pet and in some cases, you too. We stock a selection of products to keep infestations from occurring and to treat them if there is a problem already.
By the time you notice fleas on your pet, you may already have an infestation in your home or pet's environment. Your pet starts the cycle of infestation by bringing in a few fleas from outside or maybe you bring them home on your clothing. The fleas then begin feeding and breeding on your pet, leading to an accumulation of eggs, larvae, and pupae in your carpets, cracks of hardwood floors, bedding, etc. This 6-8 week period of feeding and reproducing can occur before you even notice the fleas, giving them a head start! This is why it is important to keep your pet on a flea preventative, especially during flea season.
Ticks can carry diseases that both dogs and humans can get. If you live in an area or will be traveling to an area where ticks are prevalent, we recommend that you use a product on your pet for ticks. Ticks can transmit Lyme disease, Anaplasmosis, Ehrlichiosis, and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. A vaccination is available for Lyme disease if you live in a high risk area, but there is not one for the other diseases. Early diagnosis and treatment provide for the best prognosis.
Many of the products available today provide protection against multiple parasites. A (T) after the product name means that it is applied topically and an (O) after the product means that it is an oral medication.
